The Book of Isaiah
Chapter 7
1And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz son of Jotham son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin king of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up to Jerusalem for war against it, but could not wage war against it.
2And it was told to the house of David, saying, "Aram has settled upon Ephraim." And his heart and the heart of his people shook like the shaking of trees of the forest before the wind.
3And YHWH said to Isaiah, "Go out, please, to meet Ahaz, you and Shear-jashub your son, to the end of the conduit of the upper pool, at the highway of the fuller's field."
4And you shall say to him,
"Be careful and be quiet;
do not fear, and let your heart not be faint
on account of these two stumps of smoking firebrands,
in the burning anger of Rezin and Aram and the son of Remaliah.
5Because Aram has counseled evil against you
Ephraim and the son of Remaliah — saying:
6'Let us go up against Judah and terrify it
and breach it for ourselves
and install a king in its midst — the son of Tabeel',
7thus says the Lord YHWH:
'It shall not stand, and it shall not come to pass.
8For the head of Aram is Damascus,
and the head of Damascus is Rezin
, and within sixty-five years
Ephraim shall be shattered from being a people,
9and the head of Ephraim is Samaria,
and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah.
If you do not believe,
you shall not be established.'"
10And YHWH spoke again to Ahaz, saying:
11"Ask for yourself a sign from YHWH your God;
make deep the request, or make high upward."
12And Ahaz said,
"I will not ask,
and I will not test YHWH."
13And he said, "Hear, please, O house of David: Is it too small a thing for you to weary men, that you weary my God also?
14Therefore the Lord Himself shall give to you a sign:
Behold, the young woman is pregnant and bearing a son,
and she shall call his name Immanuel.
15Curds and honey he shall eat
when he knows to refuse evil and choose good.
16For before the boy knows to refuse evil and choose good,
the land whose two kings you dread shall be forsaken."
17YHWH shall bring upon you, and upon your people,
and upon the house of your father,
days which have not come
since the day Ephraim departed from Judah
the king of Assyria.
18And it shall be in that day:
YHWH shall whistle for the fly
that is at the end of the channels of Egypt,
and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.
19And they shall come and settle, all of them,
in the wadis of the steep ravines,
and in the clefts of the rocks,
and in all the thorn-bushes,
and in all the watering places.
20In that day the Lord shall shave
with the hired razor from beyond the River
with the king of Assyria,
the head, and the hair of the feet;
and also the beard it shall sweep away.
21And it shall be in that day:
a man shall keep alive a young cow and two of the flock.
22And it shall be, from the abundance of milk-producing,
he shall eat curds;
for curds and honey shall everyone remaining
in the midst of the land eat.
23And it shall be in that day:
every place where there were a thousand vines
at a thousand silver
shall become briers and thorns.
24With arrows and with a bow one shall come there,
for all the land shall become briers and thorns.
25And all the hills which with the hoe were hoed,
you shall not come there for fear of briers and thorns,
and it shall become a place for the ranging of oxen
and the trampling of sheep.
