The Book of Isaiah

Chapter 43

1And now, thus says YHWH,
who created you, O Jacob,
and who formed you, O Israel:
"Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name, you are mine."
2When you pass through the waters, I am with you;
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you.
When you walk through fire, you shall not be scorched;
and the flame shall not burn on you.
3For I am YHWH your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your savior.
I give Egypt as your ransom,
Cush and Seba in your place.
4Because you are precious in my eyes,
you are honored, and I — I love you.
And I give men in your place,
and peoples in place of your life.
5"Do not fear, for I am with you.
From the east I will bring your offspring,
and from the west I will gather you.
6I will say to the north, 'Give up!'
and to the south, 'Do not hold back!'
Bring my sons from afar,
and my daughters from the end of the earth,
7everyone who is called by my name,
and for my glory I created him,
I formed him, indeed I made him."
8Bring out the people who are blind, though they have eyes,
and deaf, though they have ears.
9Let all the nations be gathered together,
and let the peoples be assembled.
Who among them can declare this,
and the former things — let them make us hear?
Let them produce their witnesses and be justified,
and let them hear and say, "It is true."
10"You are my witnesses," declares YHWH,
"and my servant whom I have chosen,
so that you may know and believe me
and understand that I am He.
Before me no god was formed,
and after me there shall be none."
11I, I am YHWH,
and there is no savior besides me.
12I declared, and I saved, and I made heard,
and there was no stranger among you.
And you are my witnesses, declares YHWH,
and I am God.
13Even from the day, I am He,
and there is none who delivers from my hand.
I act, and who can reverse it?
14Thus says YHWH,
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
"For your sake I send to Babylon,
and I bring down as fugitives all of them,
and the Chaldeans — in the ships of their rejoicing."
15I am YHWH, your Holy One,
the Creator of Israel, your King.
16Thus says YHWH,
who gives a way in the sea,
and a path in the mighty waters;
17who brings out chariot and horse,
army and strength,
together they lie down, they shall not rise;
they are extinguished, like a wick they are quenched.
18"Do not remember the former things,
and the things of old — do not consider.
19Behold, I am doing a new thing;
now it springs forth — do you not perceive it?
Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness,
rivers in the desert."
20The beasts of the field shall honor me,
the jackals and the ostriches,
for I give water in the wilderness,
rivers in the desert,
to give drink to my people, my chosen one.
21The people whom I formed for myself,
they shall declare my praise.
22"But you have not called upon me, O Jacob,
for you have been weary of me, O Israel.
23You have not brought to me the sheep of your burnt offerings,
and with your sacrifices you have not honored me.
I have not burdened you with grain offering,
and I have not wearied you with frankincense.
24You have not bought for me calamus with silver,
and with the fat of your sacrifices you have not satiated me.
But rather, you have burdened me with your sins,
you have wearied me with your iniquities."
25I, I am He
who blots out your transgressions for my own sake,
and your sins I will not remember.
26"Remind me; let us enter judgment together.
Recount — you! — so that you may be justified.
27Your first father sinned,
and your mediators transgressed against me."
28So I profane the princes of holiness,
and I give Jacob to destruction,
and Israel to revilings.
