The Book of Isaiah
Chapter 45
1Thus says YHWH to His anointed, to Cyrus,
whose right hand I have grasped,
to subdue nations before him
and to loose the loins of kings,
to open double doors before him
so that gates shall not be shut:
2"I will go before you
and the rough places I will make level.
Doors of bronze I will break,
and bars of iron I will cut through.
3And I will give you treasures of darkness
and hidden riches of secret places,
so that you may know that I am YHWH,
the one who calls you by name,
the God of Israel.
4For the sake of my servant Jacob,
and Israel my chosen one,
I call you by your name;
I surname you, though you do not know me.
5I am YHWH, and there is no other;
besides me there is no God.
I gird you, though you do not know me,
6so that they may know,
from the rising of the sun to its setting,
that there is none besides me.
I am YHWH, and there is no other;
7who forms light and creates darkness,
who makes peace and creates evil.
I am YHWH, who makes all these things."
8Rain down, O heavens, from above,
and let the skies pour down righteousness.
Let the earth open,
and let them bear fruit of salvation,
and let righteousness spring up together.
I, YHWH, have created it.
9Woe to him who contends with his Potter,
a potsherd among the potsherds of the ground!
Shall the clay say to its potter, "What are you making?"
or "Your work, it has no hands"?
10Woe to him who says to a father, "What do you beget?"
or to a woman, "What do you bring forth?"
11Thus says YHWH,
the Holy One of Israel and his Former:
"Concerning the things to come, ask me;
concerning my children
and concerning the work of my hands,
will you command me?
12I made the earth
and created man upon it.
I — my hands stretched out the heavens,
and all their host I commanded.
13I have roused him in righteousness,
and all his ways I will make level.
He shall build my city
and set my exiles free,
not for a price and not for a bribe,"
says YHWH of hosts.
14Thus says YHWH:
"The products of the labor of Egypt
and the merchandise of Cush,
and the Sabeans, men of stature,
shall come over to you and shall be yours.
They shall walk after you;
in chains they shall come over
and to you they shall bow down.
To you they shall pray:
'Surely in you is God,
and there is no other — there is no God.'"
15Truly, You are a God who hides Himself,
O God of Israel, savior!
16They are put to shame, and also humiliated, all of them;
together they go in humiliation, the makers of idols.
17Israel is saved by YHWH
with an everlasting salvation.
You shall not be put to shame and not be humiliated
to ages of ages.
18For thus says YHWH,
who created the heavens — He is God!,
who formed the earth and made it,
He established it;
He did not create it as emptiness;
He formed it to be inhabited:
"I am YHWH, and there is no other.
19I did not speak in secret,
in a place of a dark land.
I did not say to the seed of Jacob,
'Seek me in emptiness.'
I am YHWH, who speaks righteousness,
who declares what is right.
20Gather yourselves and come;
draw near together, survivors of the nations!
They have no knowledge — those who carry the wood of their idol
and pray to a god that cannot save.
21Declare and present your case;
indeed, let them take counsel together.
Who declared this from of old,
who told it from that time?
Is it not I, YHWH?
And there is no other God besides me,
a righteous God and a savior,
there is none besides me.
22Turn to me and be saved,
all ends of the earth!
For I am God, and there is no other.
23By myself I have sworn;
from my mouth has gone forth in righteousness
a word, and it shall not return:
'To me every knee shall bow,
every tongue shall swear.'
24Only in YHWH — one shall say of me,
are righteousness and strength.
To Him shall come and be put to shame
all who are incensed against Him.
25In YHWH all the seed of Israel
shall be justified and shall glory."
