The Book of Isaiah

Chapter 65

1I was sought by those who did not ask;
I was found by those who did not seek me.
I said, "Here am I! Here am I!"
to a nation not called by my name.
2I spread out my hands all the day
to a rebellious people,
who walk the way [that is] not good,
after their own devices,
3the people who provoke me to anger
to my face, continually,
sacrificing in gardens,
and burning incense upon bricks;
4who sit among graves,
and in secret places spend the night;
who eat the flesh of swine,
and broth of abominable things is in their vessels;
5who say, "Keep to yourself,
do not come near me, for I am holier than you",
these are smoke in my nostrils,
a fire burning all the day.
6Behold, it is written before me,
I will not be silent, but rather I will repay;
I will repay into their bosom
7your iniquities and the iniquities of your fathers together,
says YHWH,
who burned incense upon the mountains
and upon the hills reproached me.
And I will measure out their former recompense
into their bosom.
8Thus says YHWH:
"As the new wine is found in the cluster,
and one says, 'Do not destroy it, for a blessing is in it,'
so I will do for the sake of my servants,
so as not to destroy the whole.
9And I will bring forth seed from Jacob,
and from Judah an heir of my mountains.
And my chosen ones shall possess it,
and my servants shall dwell there.
10And Sharon shall be a pasture for flocks,
and the Valley of Achor a resting place for cattle,
for my people who have sought me."
11"But you who forsake YHWH,
who forget my holy mountain,
who set a table for Fortune,
and who fill mixed wine for Destiny,
12I will destine you for the sword,
and all of you shall bow down for slaughter,
because I called and you did not answer,
I spoke and you did not listen,
and you did what was evil in my eyes,
and what I did not delight in you chose."
13Therefore thus says the Lord YHWH:
"Behold, my servants shall eat,
but you shall hunger.
Behold, my servants shall drink,
but you shall thirst.
Behold, my servants shall rejoice,
but you shall be ashamed.
14Behold, my servants shall sing for joy from goodness of heart,
but you shall cry out from pain of heart,
and from brokenness of spirit you shall wail.
15And you shall leave your name as a curse-formula for my chosen ones,
and the Lord YHWH shall put you to death,
but His servants He shall call by another name,
16so that the one who blesses himself in the earth
shall bless himself by the God of Amen,
and the one who swears in the earth
shall swear by the God of Amen.
For the former troubles shall be forgotten,
and they shall be hidden from my eyes."
17"For behold, I am creating new heavens and a new earth,
and the former things shall not be remembered,
and they shall not come up upon the heart.
18But rather be glad and rejoice forever and ever
in what I am creating!
For behold, I am creating Jerusalem a rejoicing,
and her people a joy.
19And I will rejoice in Jerusalem,
and I will be glad in my people.
And there shall not be heard in her anymore
the sound of weeping or the sound of crying out."
20"There shall not be from there anymore
a nursing infant of [only a few] days,
or an old man who does not complete his days.
For the youth shall die a hundred years old,
and the sinner a hundred years old shall be accursed.
21And they shall build houses and inhabit [them],
and they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
22They shall not build and another inhabit,
they shall not plant and another eat.
For like the days of the tree
shall be the days of my people,
and the work of their hands my chosen ones shall fully enjoy.
23They shall not labor in vain,
and they shall not bear children for calamity.
For they are the seed of the blessed of YHWH,
and their offspring with them."
24"And it shall be that before they call, I will answer,
and while they are yet speaking, I will hear."
25"The wolf and the lamb shall graze together,
and the lion shall eat straw like the ox,
and the serpent — dust [shall be] his food.
They shall not hurt and they shall not destroy
in all my holy mountain,"
says YHWH.
