The Book of Isaiah
Chapter 46
1Bel bows down, Nebo stoops;
their idols are on beasts and on cattle.
Your things carried are loaded,
a burden for the weary beast.
2They stoop, they bow down together;
they cannot rescue the burden,
and they themselves go into captivity.
3"Hear me, O house of Jacob,
and all the remnant of the house of Israel,
who have been carried from the belly,
who have been borne from the womb:
4Even to old age, I am He,
and to gray hair I will bear you.
I have made, and I will carry;
I will bear and I will deliver.
5To whom will you liken me and make me equal,
and compare me, that we may be alike?
6Those who lavish gold from a purse
and weigh out silver on the scales,
they hire a goldsmith, and he makes it a god;
they bow down, indeed they worship.
7They lift it on the shoulder; they carry it;
they set it down in its place, and it stands.
From its place it does not move.
Even if one cries out to it, it does not answer;
from his trouble it cannot save him.
8Remember this and stand firm;
take it to heart, O transgressors.
9Remember the former things of old,
for I am God, and there is no other;
God, and there is none like me;
10who declares from the beginning the end,
and from ancient times things not yet done,
saying, 'My counsel shall stand,
and all my purpose I will accomplish';
11who calls from the east a bird of prey,
from a distant land the man of my counsel.
Indeed, I have spoken; indeed, I will bring it to pass.
I have purposed it; indeed, I will do it.
12Hear me, you stubborn of heart,
who are far from righteousness:
13I bring near my righteousness — it shall not be far;
and my salvation shall not delay.
And I will set salvation in Zion,
my splendor for Israel."
