The Book of Isaiah
Chapter 2
1The word which he saw, Isaiah son of Amoz, concerning Judah and Jerusalem:
2And it shall be in the latter days:
established shall be the mountain of the house of YHWH
at the head of the mountains,
and it shall be lifted up above the hills,
and all the nations shall stream to it.
3And many peoples shall go and say:
"Come, and let us go up
to the mountain of YHWH,
to the house of the God of Jacob,
and He will teach us from His ways,
and we will walk in His paths",
for from Zion shall go forth torah,
and the word of YHWH from Jerusalem.
4And He shall judge between the nations,
and He shall arbitrate for many peoples;
and they shall beat their swords into plowshares,
and their spears into pruning-hooks;
nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
and they shall not learn war anymore.
5House of Jacob,
come, and let us walk
in the light of YHWH.
6For you have abandoned your people,
the house of Jacob,
for they are filled from the east,
and are soothsayers like the Philistines,
and with the children of foreigners they clasp hands.
7And his land is filled with silver and gold,
and there is no end to his treasures;
and his land is filled with horses,
and there is no end to his chariots.
8And his land is filled with worthless things,
to the work of his hands they bow down,
to what his fingers have made.
9And man is bowed down,
and mankind is humbled,
do not lift them up!
10Enter the rock
and hide in the dust
from the terror of YHWH
and from the splendor of His majesty.
11The eyes of the haughtiness of man are brought low,
and the loftiness of men is bowed down;
and YHWH alone is exalted
in that day.
12For a day belongs to YHWH of hosts,
upon all that is proud and lofty,
and upon all that is lifted up, and it shall be brought low;
13and upon all the cedars of Lebanon,
the lofty and the lifted up,
and upon all the oaks of Bashan;
14and upon all the lofty mountains,
and upon all the lifted-up hills;
15and upon every high tower,
and upon every fortified wall;
16and upon all the ships of Tarshish,
and upon all the vessels of delight.
17And the haughtiness of man is bowed down,
and the loftiness of men is brought low;
and YHWH alone is exalted
in that day.
18And the worthless things — completely they shall pass away.
19And they shall enter into the caves of rocks
and into the holes of dust,
from the terror of YHWH
and from the splendor of His majesty,
when He rises to terrify the earth.
20In that day man shall cast away
his worthless things of silver
and his worthless things of gold
which they made for him to bow down to,
to the moles and to the bats.
21To enter into the clefts of the rocks
and into the crevices of the crags,
from the terror of YHWH
and from the splendor of His majesty,
when He rises to terrify the earth.
22Cease for yourselves from man,
who has breath in his nose,
for as what is he to be reckoned?
