The Book of Isaiah
Chapter 64
1As fire kindles brushwood,
as fire causes water to boil,
to make your name known to your adversaries,
[that] before your face nations would tremble!
2When you did awesome things we did not expect,
you came down — before your face the mountains quaked.
3And from of old they have not heard, they have not perceived,
eye has not seen a God besides you,
who acts for the one who waits for Him.
4You met the one who rejoices and does righteousness;
in your ways they remember you.
Behold, you were angry and we sinned;
in them [we have been] for a long time — shall we be saved?
5And we have all become like the unclean,
and like a polluted garment are all our righteous deeds.
And we have all withered like a leaf,
and our iniquities like the wind carry us away.
6And there is none who calls upon your name,
who rouses himself to take hold of you.
For you have hidden your face from us,
and you have delivered us up into the hand of our iniquities.
7And now, YHWH — our Father are you!
We are the clay, and you are our potter,
and the work of your hand are all of us.
8Do not be angry, YHWH, beyond measure,
and do not remember iniquity forever!
Behold, look, we are all your people!
9Your holy cities have become a wilderness;
Zion has become a wilderness,
Jerusalem a desolation.
10The house of our holiness and our splendor,
where our fathers praised you,
has become a burning of fire,
and all our precious things have become a ruin.
11In the face of these things will you restrain yourself, YHWH?
Will you be silent and afflict us beyond measure?
