The Book of Isaiah

Chapter 60

1Arise! Shine!
For your light has come,
and the glory of YHWH upon you has risen.
2For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth,
and thick darkness the peoples.
But upon you YHWH shall rise,
and His glory upon you shall be seen.
3And nations shall walk to your light,
and kings to the brightness of your rising.
4Lift up your eyes all around and see!
All of them have gathered, they have come to you.
Your sons from afar shall come,
and your daughters on the hip shall be carried.
5Then you shall see and be radiant,
and your heart shall tremble and be wide,
for the abundance of the sea shall be turned upon you;
the wealth of the nations shall come to you.
6An abundance of camels shall cover you,
young camels of Midian and Ephah.
All of them from Sheba shall come;
gold and frankincense they shall carry,
and the praises of YHWH they shall bear tidings of.
7All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered to you;
the rams of Nebaioth shall minister to you.
They shall ascend with acceptance upon my altar,
and the house of my glory I will glorify.
8Who are these, flying like a cloud,
and like doves to their windows?
9For to me the coastlands shall wait,
and ships of Tarshish first,
to bring your sons from afar,
their silver and their gold with them,
for the name of YHWH your God,
and for the Holy One of Israel, for He has glorified you.
10And foreigners shall build your walls,
and their kings shall minister to you.
For in my wrath I struck you,
but in my favor I have had compassion on you.
11And your gates shall be opened continually;
day and night they shall not be shut,
to bring to you the wealth of nations,
and their kings led in.
12For the nation and the kingdom
that will not serve you shall perish,
and the nations shall be utterly desolated.
13The glory of Lebanon shall come to you,
cypress, elm, and box tree together,
to beautify the place of my sanctuary,
and the place of my feet I will glorify.
14And the sons of those who afflicted you shall come to you bowing down,
and all those who despised you
shall bow down at the soles of your feet.
And they shall call you "City of YHWH,
Zion of the Holy One of Israel."
15Instead of your being forsaken and hated,
with no one passing through,
I will make you an everlasting pride,
a joy of generation and generation.
16And you shall nurse the milk of nations,
and at the breast of kings you shall nurse.
And you shall know that I, YHWH, am your Savior,
and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
17Instead of bronze I will bring gold,
and instead of iron I will bring silver,
and instead of wood, bronze,
and instead of stones, iron.
And I will make your overseers Peace,
and your taskmasters Righteousness.
18Violence shall no longer be heard in your land,
devastation and destruction in your borders.
And you shall call your walls Salvation,
and your gates Praise.
19The sun shall no longer be for you a light by day,
and for brightness the moon shall not give light to you.
But YHWH shall be for you an everlasting light,
and your God for your beauty.
20Your sun shall no longer set,
and your moon shall not withdraw,
for YHWH shall be for you an everlasting light,
and the days of your mourning shall be completed.
21And your people — all of them righteous,
shall possess the land forever,
the branch of my planting,
the work of my hands,
that I may be glorified.
22The least shall become a thousand,
and the youngest a mighty nation.
I am YHWH;
in its time I will hasten it.
