The Book of Isaiah
Chapter 25
1YHWH, my God, you are,
I will exalt you,
I will give thanks to your name;
for you have done a wonder,
plans from ancient times,
faithfulness, firmness.
2For you have made from a city — a heap,
a fortified city — into a ruin;
the citadel of foreigners — from a city;
forever it shall not be built.
3Therefore a fierce people shall honor you;
the city of ruthless nations shall fear you.
4For you have been a refuge for the poor,
a refuge for the needy in his distress,
a shelter from the storm,
shade from the heat;
for the blast of the ruthless
is like a storm against a wall.
5As heat in a parched land,
the noise of foreigners you subdue;
as heat by the shadow of a cloud,
the song of the ruthless is brought low.
6And YHWH of hosts shall make
for all the peoples
on this mountain
a feast of rich things,
a feast of aged wine,
rich things full of marrow,
aged wine well-refined.
7And He shall swallow up on this mountain
the face of the covering,
the covering over all the peoples,
and the woven covering
that is spread over all the nations.
8He shall swallow up death forever,
and the Lord YHWH shall wipe away tears
from upon all faces;
and the reproach of His people
He shall remove from upon all the earth,
for YHWH has spoken.
9And it shall be said in that day:
"Behold, this is our God,
we have waited for Him,
and He saves us.
This is YHWH,
we have waited for Him;
let us rejoice and let us be glad
in His salvation!"
10For the hand of YHWH shall rest on this mountain,
and Moab shall be trampled under him,
as straw is trodden
in the waters of a dung-pit.
11And he spreads out his hands in the midst of it,
as a swimmer spreads out to swim;
and He shall bring low his pride
together with the skill of his hands.
12And the fortress of the high defense of your walls
He has brought down,
brought low,
cast to the earth,
even to the dust.
