The Book of Isaiah
Chapter 18
1Woe! Land of whirring wings,
which is from beyond the rivers of Cush,
2the one who sends envoys on the sea,
and in vessels of papyrus upon the face of the waters,
Go, swift messengers!
To a nation tall and smooth-skinned,
to a people feared from it and beyond,
a nation of measuring-line upon measuring-line
and trampling,
whose land rivers divide.
3All inhabitants of the world
and dwellers of the earth,
when a signal is raised on the mountains — see!
And when a trumpet is blown — hear!
4For thus YHWH has said to me:
"I will be still,
and I will gaze from my dwelling-place,
like dazzling heat upon sunshine,
like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest."
5For before the harvest,
when the blossom is complete
and the unripe grape is ripening into a blossom,
He cuts off the shoots with pruning-hooks,
and the spreading branches
He removes — He cuts away.
6They shall be left together
for the birds of prey of the mountains
and for the beasts of the earth,
and the birds of prey shall summer upon it,
and all the beasts of the earth
upon it shall winter.
7At that time a gift shall be brought
to YHWH of hosts,
a people tall and smooth-skinned,
and from a people feared from it and beyond,
a nation of measuring-line upon measuring-line
and trampling,
whose land rivers divide,
to the place of the name of YHWH of hosts,
Mount Zion.
