The Book of Isaiah
Chapter 11
1And there shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse,
and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.
2And there shall rest upon him the spirit of YHWH,
the spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the spirit of counsel and might,
the spirit of knowledge and the fear of YHWH.
3And his delight shall be in the fear of YHWH,
and not by the sight of his eyes shall he judge,
and not by the hearing of his ears shall he decide.
4And he shall judge the poor with righteousness,
and he shall decide with equity for the afflicted of the earth.
And he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth,
and with the breath of his lips he shall put to death the wicked.
5And righteousness shall be the belt of his waist,
and faithfulness the belt of his loins.
6And the wolf shall sojourn with the lamb,
and the leopard with the kid shall lie down,
and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together,
and a little child leading them.
7And the cow and the bear shall graze,
together their young shall lie down,
and the lion shall eat straw like the cattle.
8And a nursing child shall play over the hole of the cobra,
and over the den of the viper a weaned child his hand shall stretch out.
9They shall not hurt and they shall not destroy
in all my holy mountain,
for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of YHWH
as the waters cover the sea.
10And it shall be in that day:
the root of Jesse, who stands as a signal for the peoples,
to him nations shall seek,
and his resting-place shall be glory.
11And it shall be in that day:
the Lord shall again a second time extend His hand
to acquire the remnant of His people,
who shall remain from Assyria and from Egypt and from Pathros
and from Cush and from Elam and from Shinar
and from Hamath and from the coastlands of the sea.
12And He shall raise a signal for the nations,
and He shall gather the outcasts of Israel,
and the dispersed of Judah He shall gather together
from the four corners of the earth.
13And the jealousy of Ephraim shall depart,
and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off.
Ephraim shall not envy Judah,
and Judah shall not be hostile to Ephraim.
14And they shall swoop on the slopes of the Philistines westward;
together they shall plunder the sons of the east.
Edom and Moab — the reach of their hand,
and the sons of Ammon — their subjects.
15And YHWH shall dry up the tongue of the sea of Egypt,
and He shall wave His hand over the River
with the scorching of His wind,
and He shall strike it into seven streams,
and He shall make them walk in sandals.
16And there shall be a highway
for the remnant of His people who shall remain from Assyria,
as there was for Israel
in the day of his coming up from the land of Egypt.
