The Book of Isaiah

Chapter 6

1In the year of the death of King Uzziah, and I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his hems filling the temple.
2Seraphim standing above him,
six wings, six wings to each one:
with two he covers his face,
and with two he covers his feet,
and with two he flies.
3And one called to the other and said:
"Holy, holy, holy is YHWH of hosts;
the fullness of all the earth is His glory."
4And the doorposts of the thresholds shook
from the voice of the one calling,
and the house was filled with smoke.
5And I said: "Woe is me,
for I am silenced,
for a man of unclean lips am I,
and in the midst of a people of unclean lips
I dwell,
for the King, YHWH of hosts,
my eyes have seen."
6And one from the seraphim flew to me,
and in his hand a glowing stone;
with tongs he had taken it
from upon the altar.
7And he touched it upon my mouth
and said:
"Behold, this has touched your lips,
and your iniquity is removed,
and your sin is atoned for."
8And I heard the voice of the Lord saying:
"Whom shall I send,
and who will go for us?"
And I said:
"Here am I — send me!"
9And he said: "Go, and say to this people:
'Hear continually, and do not understand;
and see continually, and do not perceive.'
10Make fat the heart of this people,
and his ears make heavy,
and his eyes seal shut,
lest he see with his eyes,
and with his ears hear,
and his heart understand,
and he turn and be healed."
11And I said: "How long, Lord?"
And he said: "Until cities lie desolate
without inhabitant,
and houses without man,
and the ground shall be desolated,
a desolation.
12And YHWH shall send far away the man,
and great shall be the abandonment
in the midst of the land.
13And yet in it a tenth,
and it shall again be for burning,
like the terebinth and like the oak,
which when felled, a stump is in them,
the holy seed is its stump."
